"You said you'd read me like a book, but the pages all are torn and frayed"
Who? Noah Puckerman and Mercedes Jones
What? Dealing with the aftermath
When? An hour or so after Kurt and Santana question Blaine
Where? Mercedes' apartment, New York City
It had been a hard thing for Puck to leave Blaine right now. The pair had remained the best of friends since Blaine waltzed his hobbity rear over to Puck early on in their days at McKinley and had firmly established himself, not only as a friend, but as, without a doubt, the best friend Puck had ever had. And ever since then, anytime Blaine had needed him, Puck had been there, like clockwork. Even when Kurt and Blaine had broken up and seemingly everything Puck believed in had fallen apart around him, he'd been right there to help Blaine through. Even if it had meant spending hours on end with a hobbit wearing Buzz jammies and a snuggie and crying so much that he'd used up a box of tissue already by the time Puck got there.
But Blaine had begged Puck just to leave him alone for a while. And sometimes, it really fucking sucked having a relationship like theirs, because Puck's first and primary goal in pretty much any situation was to make sure that Blaine was okay. If Blaine was okay, the rest could be sorted out. But Blaine sure as hell wasn't himself after the attack that had happened on their big band cruise. Puck knew that he couldn't really be expected to be, but for fuck's sake, this was one of the hardest things he'd ever dealt with. In almost every circumstance in the past where Puck had been a part of Blaine's life, if nothing else, he'd been able to comfort his BFF with a hug, or at least somehow convince him that he was going to be okay. This time, there wasn't that chance. Blaine had actually physically pulled away from Puck's embrace, and that was a level of hurt Puck had no idea how to deal with.
It was that particular issue that found Puck outside Mercedes' apartment, which was in the next building from the one he shared with Blaine, pressing the button to buzz her and alert her that he was here. The pair of them had only been dating for a month or so now, but they'd been in the band together for years, and had known Blaine even longer than that. Even in the midst of the swirling emotions in his head, Puck found himself remembering the day it had hit him that he wanted Mercedes to be his girlfriend... and for real this time. He'd made her dinner at his place on the rare weekend that they weren't playing a gig somewhere, and more or less spilled his guts completely. The first words out of her mouth had been a playful reminder that he didn't need her mojo to get popular anymore, but after a long talk, they'd decided to give it another go.
The sound of the buzzer from her side unlocking the doors broke Puck out of his thought, and he let himself into the building before taking the elevator up to Mercedes' apartment, where she was already waiting for him with the door unlocked. "Hey, babe," he said softly, leaning close to kiss her cheek.
